Movie Review: 'The Colony' -- 1.5 stars
Directed by Jeff Renfroe
Starring Kevin Zegers, Laurence Fishburne, Bill Paxton
“The Colony” is a horror movie about survival, about getting from one place to the next in dire cold while not dying from the elements or some hungry hunters.
To dig too deeply into the plot of this low-budget Canadian flick would be a waste of ink. Here’s the gist: Post-apocalyptic world, two colonies, one stops communicating, search party sent out, terror ensues. There you go.
Inexplicably, “The Colony” has two big name leads in Laurence Fishburne, who plays nice guy Briggs, and Bill Paxton, who plays the heartless Mason. Between them is an impressive resume of quality films. This is not one of them.
“The Colony” occasionally showcases some compelling character moments and some stellar set pieces, but most of them time it’s just overacting and endless violence.
