  • New York Giants to add wrinkles to simplified game plan

With a litany of injuries decimating their receiving corps and offensive line, the Giants (7-4) employed a scaled-down game plan against the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday.

The result: No turnovers during an inspired, come-from-behind 24-20 victory that earned Big Blue a share of first place with rival Philadelphia in the NFC East entering this weekend’s divisional meeting with visiting Washington (5-6).

Quarterback Eli Manning’s top two targets — Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks — and three members of the offensive line — David Diehl, Shaun O’Hara and Shawn Andrews — were inactive for Sunday’s game.

The limited personnel forced Giants head coach Tom Coughlin to “cut back” on the diversity of his offensive attack, a scheme he intends to enhance a bit against the Redskins.

“You can expand some and it’s always determined naturally by game plan, and it becomes the idea of how to structure, how far out to go and what do you need to win,” Coughlin said during his weekly press conference. “It grows and it develops and that will be the case this week."
