  • New Yorkers thank the brave on Veterans Day

As the country marks Veterans Day on Wednesday, New Yorkers expressed their gratitude toward the soldiers who have kept the U.S. safe over the decades. They also thanked the troops currently serving tours in Iraq and Afghanistan for their brave service.

Here’s some of what New Yorkers had to say:

“Stay vigilant and be safe. I want all of them to return home. … Thanks for what you’re doing. I support you.”
    — Jay Boyd, 30, midtown

“I support the military but not the wars, so keep safe, guys.”
    — Coral Copetz, 24, midtown

“You can have your own opinions, but definitely follow your orders. Be your best and listen to your superiors. The war you’re fighting will be justifiable in the end.”
    — Serge Matsko, 45, Astoria

“Thank you for your service and everything you’ve done for us. You make us very proud.”
    — Abdou Seye, 39, Harlem

“Nobody wants their family to go fight, but someone has to do it. They’re by far the bravest people in the world.”
    — Latonia Strickland, 21, midtown

“Stay safe. Take care of your battle buddies. Treat those troops like your family. There’s going to be a love-hate relationship and mixed emotions, but you have to take care of each other.”
    — Joe Panliliio, 26, Staten Island

“Come home. I feel sorry for their families. The war has been going on for too long.”
    — Melinda Mannings, 32, Bushwick
