  • No jail for Lori Berenson, still to stay in Peru until 2015

Lori Berenson can get on with her life after a Peruvian appeals court rejected a bid to put her back behind bars.

Berenson, 41, a former New Yorker, was paroled in May after being convicted in 1996 of having collaborated with the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, which the government deemed a terrorist organization. Her case became a cause celebre amid allegations she received an unfair trial.

A prosecutor had sought to revoke her parole, but the three-judge panel’s findings mean Berenson is free and clear. Under the parole’s terms, she must remain in the country through November 2015.
