On our radar: Venomous Villains
We'll be honest: When it comes to style and beauty, we often think cartoony collaborations are a bit hokey — especially if they're aimed at adults.
Leave it to MAC to change our minds, with their hotly-anticipated (and awesome) Venomous Villains collection, which hits stores on Thursday.
MAC — with its forward-thinking, Zeitgeisty approach to beauty (drag queen RuPaul was its spokesperson in the '90s, Lady Gaga reps some of the brand's initiatives today) — teamed up with Disney to create four capsule collections, each based on some of Disney's top animated antagonists.
Cruella De Vil from "101 Dalmatians," Maleficent from "Sleeping Beauty," "Snow White’s" Evil Queen and Doctor Facilier from the "Princess and the Frog," are all represented in strong textured, intense-colored blush, light-reflecting powder, eye shadow, liner, lipstick and nail polish.
Adding a serious artistic element to the concept is the fact that Disney provided the original Pantone shades used in animation to help MAC design the color palettes, and the brand took into consideration the attitudes, skin tone, clothing style and coloring of each character, lending an aspect of truth to each individual piece.
There's also something to be said for translating evil into makeup, as opposed to good — deep purples, smoky grays, royal blues and cherry reds are way more fun to experiment with than safe baby pinks and quotiedien neutrals.
Plus, we don't know about you, but we'd rather take beauty cues from women like Cruella de Vil or the Evil Queen than boring old Cinderella, Ariel or Sleeping Beauty any day.
