Partygoer critical, others rescued after E. Village stair collapse
A partygoer was critically injured and more than 30 of his friends were stranded on an East Village roof after the building's stairwell collapsed early Sunday morning.
The unidentified man fell through four half-landings after he left the rooftop party at 159 East Second Ave. around 1:25 a.m., the fire department said. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was listed in critical condition Sunday afternoon.
The FDNY rescued remaining guests with a bucket ladder and transported them to the street. Tenants of the seven-story building were able to use the stairs, which were shored up, as the buildings department investigated the accident.
