Amid chatter that Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas and even Kanye West are under consideration for an "American Idol" judging job, last season's winner, Phillip Phillips, is weighing in with his top choice.

"I would say Stevie Wonder," Phillips told us before the Nassau Coliseum stop on the "American Idols Live" tour this week.

"He's got a great ear; it would be really all about if you can sing or about the music," added Phillips of the legendary performer.

Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler have both bowed out of judging duties on the Fox competition show for the upcoming 12th season. Mariah Carey has joined the panel, while it remains unclear whether veteran judge Randy Jackson will return as a judge or in a mentoring capacity.

Meanwhile, Phillips - who beat out Jessica Sanchez for the title last season - said that after the "Live" tour is finished this summer, he'll be getting down to serious business in the studio.

"I'm just going to be working on my album some more and, just, hopefully getting it out as soon as I can," Phillips said.
