President Barack Obama appeared alongside Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on CBS' "60 Minutes" Sunday and said he believes Clinton will go down as "one of the finest secretaries of state we've had."

"I wanted to have a chance to publicly say thank you," Obama said in the first interview he has given alongside anyone other than his wife, Michelle.

"I'm going to miss her ... but she has logged in so many miles, I can't begrudge her wanting to take it easy for a little bit," Obama said.

Clinton said a few years ago it would have been "improbable" to give a joint interview because of their combative primary campaign, but now it was "ancient history."

Clinton said she was surprised when he asked her to be secretary of state. "President Obama asked me ... and I said, 'Yes.' And why did he ask me and why did I say yes? Because we both love our country," she said.
