Queens middle school teacher charged with raping student
A 44-year-old Queens middle school teacher has been arrested and charged with the statutory rape of a student with whom he allegedly began a 14-month sexual relationship when she was 13-years-old.
Charles Oross, 44, of East Islip, began having sex with the student in an I.S. 238 (Susan B. Anthony) classroom in Hollis in January 2009 and also had sexual contact with her 10 to 14 times in his car, according to a report by the Special Commissioner of Investigation for the New York City School District.
The girl, who is now 16 and attending high school, was also contacted by Oross's wife on Facebook, the report said. The wife wanted to know "whether there was any sexual contact" between the student and her husband, and the girl replied that there was, the report said.
Oross did not use a condom, telling the girl he had a vasectomy, according to the investigation. Special Commissioner Richard Condon recommended that Oross be fired, and made ineligible for any future work with the Department of Education or its vendors or facilities.
Oross, who was charged with three counts of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
Attorney information for Oross was not immediately available.
