Richard Belzer leaving 'Law & Order: SVU'
Bye, bye Belzer!
After 15 seasons, Richard Belzer is leaving NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," a show spokesperson confirmed Thursday.
The actor's final episode as Sgt. John Munch will air Oct. 16. Munch will retire from the NYPD.
"While there are no immediate plans for him to return, Munch's storyline leaves the door open for him to work with the SVU squad in the future," the spokesperson said.
Belzer, 69, was an original castmember of "SVU" when it debuted in 1999, as were Mariska Hargitay, who is still on the show, and Christopher Meloni, who left his longtime role of Elliot Stabler in 2011.
