Much of midtown will be stopped cold as thousands of spectators gather at Rockefeller Center for the 80th annual tree lighting Wednesday night.
This year's celebration starts at 8 p.m. and includes performances by Cee Lo Green, Mariah Carey and Rod Stewart. "Today" show anchors Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie are the hosts and the ceremony will be broadcast on NBC.
The Norway spruce is from Flanders, N.J., and is 80 feet tall. The city urges visitors to take mass transit to see the lighting since the police will block streets in a two-block radius.
