  • Sophia and Jayden are top baby names in New York City

Sophia and Jayden were the hottest baby names of 2008, accounting for 1,383 New York newborns last year and knocking Isabella and Daniel from the top honors, the city health department said Wednesday.

Armani and Clementine were among the less common names of the year for girls, while Keon, Milan and Jeter (yes, as in the Yankees’ star shortstop) were some unique monikers for boys.

There was no shortage of celebrity-inspired names either, with Angelina (No. 22), Mariah (No. 88) and Rihanna (No. 100) in the mix. Parents also chose biblical names, such as Genesis for girls (No. 52) and Jeremiah for boys  (No. 34).
