amNewYork was on hand at September's New York Fashion Week, which showcased the spring 2013 collections, to take note of trends sure to make their way into stores -- and, subsequently, New Yorkers' wardrobes -- this season.
Leaving strategic bits of skin exposed is creating one of the sexiest -- yet not overtly so -- trends of the season, drawing the eye to the chest, waist, stomach or other area of the body that's free of full coverage.
Ladies who failed to jump for joy over last year's short-short trend will appreciate the more modest just-above-the-knee length, sure to be popular on the city streets once warm weather hits.
Black and white
Black and white made a bold bang in designers' spring collections, with head-to-toe graphic prints, vertical stripes and color blocking ruling the runways.
Start doing those crunches now: Crop tops are back. On the runways, looser, boxier styles as well as snugger, bra- and corset-like tops were both prevalent, worn with everything from flowy pants to leather skirts to slouchy shorts.
Leather, one of fall 2012's major trends, is back for spring but with a lighter feeling. Many designers have swapped out black, chocolate brown and oxblood for brighter shades of blue, mustard or green, and paired leather skirts or pants with sheer or semi-sheer tops.
Vertical, horizontal, thick, thin -- you name it, designers showed it. Oscar de la Renta upped the ante, earning his stripes with a elegant striped gown.
