Study says 7 train Jersey expansion would help boost economy
A yearlong study backs the mayor's dream of extending the No. 7 train to New Jersey.
The report, released Wednesday by infrastructure consulting firm Parsons Brinckerhoff, found that a connection between Secaucus, N.J., and the future 11th Avenue stop would be an economic boost to both states. Such an extension would have a daily ridership of 128,000 and improve commuting efficiency.
"Expanding trans-Hudson commuting capacity ... is critical to maximizing the region's growth potential," the report said.
Three years ago, N.J. Gov. Chris Christie stopped his state's Access to the Region's Core project, which would have created a tunnel between the city and New Jersey. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has pushed Christie to reconsider.
