Style tips from black tie to jeans
Kelly Killoren Bensimon - model, fashionista and author of the book "I Can Make You Hot! The Supermodel Diet" - dishes out style advice to amNewYork's readers.
Awards season has inspired me to go glam, which is perfect since I'm going to a few black-tie weddings this year. Whose red-carpet looks are wearable? On the Golden Globes red carpet, I loved the red Versace dress worn by my new fave - Claire Danes. Red is always a bold color choice, and the wrap style is so flattering. I also love anything with cutouts like the dress Kristen Wiig wore. It's sexy yet modern. And I love any woman who has the courage to wear a fitted tux.
I've been seeing print jeans everywhere. How can I wear them? I love colored and print jeans - my favorites are my Calvin Rucker jeans: white with black splatters. Color is a new modern take on denim. When pairing them with a top, less is more. I like tight turtlenecks or a simple tee.
Since it's so cold out, what are some options for a night out that will keep me warm? I love the layering of tanks. A hot white tank under a lace tank is sexy and sweet. Cozy sweaters on top always allude to the fact that if you get warm, you can show it all. Or a hot tuxedo blazer - I love rag & bone's.
I'm sick of shopping at the same stores. Any new or under-the-radar places you can suggest? Like you, I love designers and impressed by their talent, but I want to wear clothes no one else has. I'm obsessed with Clic Gallery (255 Centre St., 212-966-2766). Alasdair is a new New York-based designer to watch - closely. I also love Geminola.com.
What are your favorite trends of 2013? I really love tall boots for fall, and mini ankle boots with fun tights or hot lace ankle socks. I also love the chunky sweaters by Stella McCartney and skintight jeans. And leggings are the new jeans. Make sure you wear them like clothes and not like workout-wear!
