Sudan diplomat's wife hit by stray bullet in Astoria
The wife of a diplomat from Sudan was hit with a stray bullet earlier this week as she walked with her young children in Astoria, according to published reports.
Mawahad Elbahi, 31, was hit between her neck and shoulder outside her home on 31st Drive on Tuesday afternoon while waiting for a school bus to drop off her 5-year-old son, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday. She was holding her 1-year-old son and walking with her 3-year-old daughter. None of her children were injured.
Kelly said two groups of young men were fighting nearby and started "shooting carelessly," according to the Daily News.
Elbahi is expected to make a full recovery.
