Anne Becerra, NYC's first female cicerone, (certified beer connoisseur) says you should find the right beer for you through trial and error. Just head to a bar with an open mind, and sample a few taps. Once you've found the flavor, consider what Becerra calls her secret weapon: glassware. The right glass releases unique aromas and brings out nuances in flavor.

"You wouldn't drink a cabernet or a Champagne out of the bottle, so why beer?" she said.

    Becerra's beer suggestions:

Dinner for two: "This is a time to indulge. Try Wayan from Le Baladin in Piozzo, Italy. They use several different malts, spices and herbs. Serve in a tulip glass."

Housewarming party: "If you can't decide on a particular style, why not mix it up? Brooklyn Brewery makes the Brooklyn Party Pack ... with four different styles of beer. Serve in pilsner or lager glasses."

St. Patrick's Day party: "Try the Dublin-based Porterhouse's Irish Red. [It] goes well with burgers, Shepard's pie and beef stew. Serve in a lager glass."
