As a follow-up to yesterday's "Faces of Shame" photo gallery, highlighting the contrite faces of politicians forced to own up to what they done wrong, today we bring you "The Shamed Wives Club" -- a look at the women who stand by their men in the face of adversity, starting of course with Silda Spitzer.

Click here to see the expressions on their faces.

Why do they do it? Dr. Brenda Shoshanna, a relationship counselor in the city says it's shock. "None of it has sunk in yet and the first thought is to protect the husband and the family," she said.

In regards to Silda Spitzer, Dr. Anne-Renee Testa, author of the book "The Bully in Your Relationship" said this: "I was looking at her face and she was so demoralized, her eyelids were at half mast, she was like a deer in the headlights. It’s a sense of loss."

Marie Wilson, founder of a nonprofit which works to build civic leadership roles for women, says they're not doing it for the hubby, but for the rest of us.

"In a way what you have up there is not someone standing by her man, but by her state."
