Three seniors in submerged car saved by EMTs: FDNY
Three elderly people trapped in a submerged car in Queens were saved Wednesday afternoon by two hero EMTs, according to the FDNY.
When EMTs Marilyn Arroyo and Jimmy Guailacela showed up on Cooper Avenue in Glendale, they saw three seniors -- two women and a man -- with water up to their chest in the rain-filled car, which was trapped by flooding that regularly plagues the street. The man was sticking his head out of the car's sunroof to stay above the water, according to an FDNY statement.
The EMTs helped the trio swim to safety, a tricky feat for Arroyo, who reportedly doesn't know how to swim.
An FDNY spokesman said the EMTs couldn't "tell what kind of car it was."
