The latest 1980s cartoon to get a revival, "ThunderCats" is roaring its way back to TV Friday on Cartoon Network at 8 p.m. with an updated, modernized version.

And while the new series is missing the original's beloved theme song, you're definitely going to want to "feel the magic" and "hear the roar." Here's what you need to know:

    Everything is familiar
Lion-O is back, and while this one's a younger version, he's still rocking the Sword of Omens that gives him sight beyond sight. The cast is rounded out by the familiar faces of Tygra, Cheetara and the rest of the kitties.

    Snarf!
The weird little nanny creature from the original series is here, though thankfully he doesn't talk, just squeaking out his name quietly. It's a huge improvement.

    Mumm-Ra
The "ever-living" villain, with his creepiness amped way up, is still wrecking havoc on the ThunderCats.

On TV: "ThunderCats" debuts on Cartoon Network on Friday at 8 p.m.
