Chopsticks at the ready! It's the Tofu Around the World Cook-Off.
Starting in a few minutes, four of New York's kitchen heavyweights will begin the fisticuffs to make tofu taste, um, good.
Yes, it can be done ... Remember when Top Chef Finalist Richard Blais used his kitchen trickery -- braising tofu steaks wrapped in tender beef fat to the pleasant surprise of the judges.
Expect similar tactics from fellow science chefs Wylie Dufresne of WD-50, Erik Battes of Perry Street Café and Edward Higgins of Insieme who along with sushi master Akinobu Suzuki of Sakagura will battle it out at the Astor Center in the East Village for the title of tofu king and the added incentive of $5,000.
The chef handlers are mum on how these guys plan to transform tofu, but we will announce this year's bean curd champ as soon as we know.
