Tourists come to NYC for...BURGERS
The Big Apple is well known for tourist attractions like the Empire State Building, the Guggenheim Museum and the Statue of Liberty. Visitors will line up for hours to see the sights.
But NYC is also becoming known as a hamburger destination. Whether from guide books, TV shows, the hushed whispers of hotel concierges or from other tourists, out-of-towners know about our beef patties, and are adding eating them to their to-do lists.

This mother and working model made Shake Shack her first stop from the airport. "Perfect weather made it a must!" North explained before indulging in a Shack Burger. Despite auditions all week, this Sports Illustrated swimsuit model wasn't going to miss out.
INSIDER TIP The original location in Madison Square Park is the one to visit, especially in good weather. Get there when they open at 11 a.m. or mid-afternoon and be prepared to wait. Plan ahead using the "Shack Cam" on their website which shows the line.

The first thing Carron wanted when she arrived from London was a "good American cheeseburger." She found it at the Burger Joint at The Parker Meridian Hotel, a burger stand hidden behind a thick curtain next to the check-in desk. She was not disappointed. "It delivers," she exclaimed before quipping that she was glad that it was free of horse meat.
INSIDER TIP Space is tight and the lines are long, but luckily they have just opened a second outpost on 8th Street -- same burger, less wait.

The original destination hamburger is actually a bar that serves a hamburger. It became famous overnight in 1977 after an article in the New York Times. Mentioned in Michelin and numerous guides, it was the last stop before flying home for Kandell and Koman. They wanted a last taste of the city. "It tastes home-made," said Koman before anointing it with ketchup and mustard and digging in.
INSIDER TIP The best time to visit is mid-afternoon, although it is also a great late night burger spot.
