The Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday means good cheer for revelers who’ll get serenaded by Susan Boyle, Boyz II Men, Jessica Simpson and other musical acts.

But drivers should expect gridlock. The area around Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall will be closed for the event from 3 p.m. through about 9 p.m. The closures include Fifth and Sixth avenues between West 48th and West 51st streets.

Police are urging spectators to use mass transit and warn that backpacks or large bags are prohibited at the event.
