TSA: Man busted trying to sneak knife onto plane in jar of mayo
TSA agents at Kennedy Airport seized a knife hidden inside a jar of mayonnaise Tuesday from a man headed to Mexico, officials said.
The unidentified man "artfully" hid the Leatherman knife inside the jar - both items are banned from carry-on luggage - and screeners picked up the item at an x-ray machine checkpoint, officials said.
The knife and the jar were taken, and the man was allowed to board his plane because "the threat had been removed," said TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein.
The TSA screened more than 603 million passengers in the U.S. in 2011, stopping some 125,000 pieces of contraband, 1,300 of which were firearms, according to the TSA.
