Twitter snaps up TweetDeck for $40M: Report
Twitter has bought TweetDeck, the most popular third-party application for Twitter users, for more than $40 million, CNN reported yesterday, citing sources familiar with the deal.
Twitter reps, however, weren’t so eager to confirm the news, saying on the company’s PR account yesterday: “For all those who might be curious, we continue to not comment on rumors.”
Despite Twitter staying mum on the transaction, CNN said that papers had been signed finalizing the deal.
TechCrunch, an online tech blog, sparked speculation about the deal months ago when it first reported that Twitter was in talks with TweetDeck to acquire the company for between $40 million and $50 million.
UberMedia, which develops apps and Web-based services for Twitter and other social networking sites, was rumored to be mulling a TweetDeck buyout in February. Twitter suspended UberMedia afterward, citing policy violations.
