Gotham’s monsters and zombies will have to wait until at least next week to hit the streets.

For the first time in 39 years, the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade has been postponed. The NYPD and city’s Office of Emergency Management made the call due to the days of recovery needed following Hurricane Sandy.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the city is working with organizers to see if they can hold the parade at another date, possibly next week.

“We hope that everyone who would have come to the Parade is safe and that those who can volunteer to help out at one of the Emergency Outreach Centers near you,” the parade’s organizers wrote on the event’s website.

“We will surely miss all of you!  Hallelujah Halloween!”
