Voters put Republicans in guv seats

As the GOP last night took control of the House, it also made gains in governorships nationwide, taking at least eight states formerly ruled by Democrats, putting them in charge of at least 15 states as of press time.
Five key races:
The shift to the right across the nation was seen by many Republicans as a “repudiation” of President Barack Obama and his White House, and will re-shape the political landscape.
- California: Democrat Jerry Brown defeated former eBay chief executive and Republican candidate Meg Whitman, who spent more than $140 million of her own money in her campaign. - Massachusetts: Incumbent and close friend of President Obama, Deval Patrick held onto his job against Republican Charlie Baker, with some saying independent Tim Cahill cost Baker the election. - Pennsylvania: Republican Tom Corbett beat Democrat Dan Onorato in a big win for the GOP. - Michigan: Republican Rick Snyder took out Democrat Virg Bernero after incumbent Democrat Jennifer Granhol stepped down due to term limits. - South Carolina: Tea Party-favorite Nikki Hanley beat Democrat opponent Vincent Sheheen, making her the state’s first minority governor. Her parents were born in India. - Colorado: John Hickenlooper handily defeated both his Republican opponent Dan Maes and Independent opponent Tom Tancredo.(Tim Herrera)
