Wacky weekend subway service persists

The abundance of work continues this weekend, impacting all but four major subway lines normally running on Saturdays and Sundays. J, M, V and W riders will be spared, but all other lines will suffer from rerouting. Shuttle buses will continue to run along stretches of the A, E, F, G and L.
“They keep cutting service, it’s really a shame,” said Joe Blesadale, 39, a Brooklyn rider.
Riders on the No. 2, No. 7, A, D, F and Q will also have to deal with weekend service disruptions next month, according to NYC Transit documents.
The amount of work taking place this month isn’t abnormal, with the addition of major station renovations along the A, F and Q lines in Brooklyn, transit spokesman Charles Seaton said.
The agency is also pushing to finish several maintenance projects by the end of the year.
“Most of these outdoor projects cannot be performed during the winter months,” he said.
Subways arrived according to normal schedule 54 percent of the time in August on weekends, with maintenance causing 22,250 delays, according to agency statistics.
