Watching spring 2011’s streamlined styles go down the runway at New York Fashion Week last month inspired my fall fashion desires to lean toward classic.

Needless to say, I didn’t have any trouble finding buttery leathers, rich neutrals and always-in-style prints to fill my closet — and keep it stocked for seasons to come.

    Animal prints
So much more fun than basic black — but  meant to be used as a neutral, too.
wren jacket, $795; at Bird, 203 Grand St., Williamsburg, 718-388-1655

    Slouchy silk pants
As comfortable as pajama pants but as sophisticated as more structured trousers.
    Loeffler Randall pants, $295

    Camel leather skirt
One of the most gorgeous colors for fall looks even richer on soft, supple leather.
    J. Crew skirt, $325; at J. Crew, 91 Fifth Ave., 212-255-4848

    Combat boots
You can’t beat perfectly worn-in combat boots for running around the city.
Bernardo boots, $154; at Dear Fieldbinder, 198 Smith St., Carroll Gardens, 718-852-3620

    Little black daytime dress
The perfect addition to my collection of long-sleeved dresses — it’s fitted (but not too body-hugging) and can be worn with practically anything in my closet.
T by Alexander Wang dress, $108
