Where designers do their holiday gift shopping
To get into the holiday shopping spirit, we asked some seriously stylish designers one simple question: Where do you like to do your gift-buying in New York?
"I always do a bunch of Christmas shopping at my friends Robert [Gerstner] and Karl [Bradl's] store Aedes de Venustas (9 Christopher St., 212-206-8674). [I'll find] everything from a Cire Trudon bust candle to the rarest fragrances — and the best gift-wrapping in town."
"One of my favorite spots is Dashwood Books (33 Bond St., 212-387-8520) - so many interesting books that make memorable gifts."
"I love going to this amazing vintage store in East Williamsburg called Grand St. Bakery (602 Grand St., East Williamsburg, 718-387-2390). It has really incredible little knickknacks, vintage that inspires new and amazing jewelry - which my girlfriend will be excited about." —Alan Eckstein, co-designer of Timo Weiland
"I like shopping at John Derian (6 E. Second St., 212-677-3917). They have great eclectic gifts and decoupage plates."
"BDDW (5 Crosby St., 212-625-1215), the handmade American furniture store, always has great items for some of my big gift recipients. I especially love their wall mirrors and cheese boards."
"Moon River Chattel (62 Grand St., Williamsburg, 718-388-1121). It's a great stop for old-fashioned toys for all the kids on my list."
"Patron of the New (151 Franklin St., 212-966-7144). The products there are extremely unique, luxurious and beautifully designed. They have everything — antique perfume bottles, funky one-of-a-kind jewelry, silk sleeping masks and incredibly yummy gloves, scarves and accessories. I bought all of my staff's holiday gifts there this year and they wrapped each item so beautifully — the presentation alone looks like the actual gift! I do not like shopping in a crazy, crowded atmosphere — it makes it that much harder to remember what I am there for — and walking into Patron of the New brings such serenity to my day."

"My favorite place to do holiday shopping is, without question, Bergdorf Goodman (754 Fifth Ave., 212-753-7300). BG hits all the right notes on my gift list: luxurious (check) and inspired (check) with a touch of the unexpected (triple check). The uber-glamourous Linda Fargo tree ornament (signed, of course) is my fave item of the season. Clad in her iconic leopard motif, it is the ultimate in chic and de rigeur for all fashionistas."
