Construction will resume Monday at the Second Avenue subway site where an explosion last week damaged nearby buildings, according to MTA officials.

Underground work on what will be a new station at 72nd Street will be performed for the first time since Tuesday afternoon, when officials believe workers placed explosives at the wrong angle, pointing them up at a metal cover at street level that wasn't anchored down. Rubble erupted, smashing at least six windows of an art gallery and apartment building across the street.

MTA chief Joe Lhota said on Thursday that blasting would not begin again until his concerns about the mistake were addressed.
