WTC transit hub may again be over budget, behind schedule

Construction of the World Trade Center transit hub is once again over budget and behind schedule, according to a Federal Transit Administration report.
The latest estimates by the agency has the Santiago Calatrava-designed hub at a price tag of $3.8 billion, up from the last estimate of $3.4 billion, and more than 70 percent more than the initial proposal of $2.2 billion, the report states, according to a Bergen Record story Monday.
The transit administration would not release a copy of the report Monday, but it reportedly also pushes back three months to March 2015 the completion date for the project.
The Port Authority said it disagreed with the assessment. “We remain confident in our budget,” spokesman John Kelly said.
Brian Farber, the FTA’s associate administrator for communications and congressional affairs, stressed that although the agency has concerns, the Port Authority can still meet their $3.4-million budget if they manage those issues properly.
