  • Zooey Deschanel: Skinny isn't necessary in Hollywood

    (Glamour)

Zooey Deschanel isn’t impressed by Hollywood’s skinny ideal.

“I don’t [feel pressure to look a certain way],” the “New Girl” star says as Glamour’s February cover girl.

“But actresses have definitely gotten thinner over the course of my lifetime,” she told the magazine. “There are a lot of actresses [nowadays] who are unhealthy-skinny — much, much too skinny.”

The petite 32-year-old actress said that she’s naturally “a very small person,” so, if she “lost 15 pounds, I’d look like them; it’s scary.”

“For young girls, what does that say? ‘You need to look this way to be successful’? That’s not true,” Deschanel said. “You do not need to look or be anorexic to be successful
in Hollywood. The range of what’s acceptable is larger than what people believe.”
