Abe Vigoda = George Halas

The news earlier this week that ESPN and the NFL are planning a Vince Lombardi biopic for 2012 starring Robert De Niro inspired the Twitterverse to offer many creative casting suggestions for other roles.

Mine: Abe Vigoda as George Halas, Randy Couture as Ray Nitschke and Kevin James as Fuzzy Thurston.

(Why not Abe? If Betty White could turn that Snickers ad during the Super Bowl into a gig hosting SNL, Abe can be in the Lombardi movie.)

Some of the others (sorry not to credit everyone individually):

Tom Landry: Patrick Stewart, Ed Harris, Luke Wilson, Anthony Edwards, Ed Burns, Matt Damon, Robert Duvall, George Clooney, Harrison Ford, Burt Reynolds

Max McGee: Nick Nolte, Ryan Gosling, David Schwimmer, Luke Wilson, Adam Sandler

Zeke Bratkowski: Jim Sorgi

Bart Starr: George Clooney, Brett Favre, Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks

Paul Hornung: Seth Rogen, Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo DiCaprio

Ray Nitschke: Woody Harrelson
