Neil Best leaves no stone unturned in the world of sports media.
Amar'e is a media mensch
Please join me in offering a laurel and hearty handshake to Amar’e Stoudemire, the winner of our fifth annual New York Sports Media Person of the Year Award.
The Knicks forward becomes the first player so honored, joining previous winners Hank Steinbrenner (2007), Jerry Manuel (2008), Rex Ryan (2009) and Mikhail Prokhorov (2010).
If the Knicks’ revival eventually leads to a championship, his arrival will be recalled as a pivotal event, not only because of his play but also his affability, accessibility and demeanor as an all-around mensch as the face of the franchise.
And given his eclectic off-court interests, who knows, perhaps Stoudemire someday will follow in the footsteps of a fellow NYSMPYA recipient and run for president of Russia.
