Baseball a pleasant pastime, hockey an exciting sport
Inspired by Wednesday night's Caps-Rangers thriller, I started a spirited Facebook discussion in which I respectfully asked the Misguided Majority who favor baseball over hockey to explain to me how that possibly can be so.
Then I said to myself, "Self: Let's bring this over to the blog to buy me time to write my Friday newspaper column."
So help me out here, baseball fans - and editors who determine back page subjects at New York tabloids other than Newsday:
What exactly is it that makes baseball a more popular spectator sport than hockey?
(BTW, Wednesday's Rangers game averaged 2.86 percent of New York-area homes - the best rating for a Rangers game on MSG in 12 years. Mets-Cards averaged 2.57.)
