Joe Torre generally is extremely complimentary in his new book in discussing players from the late 1990s glory years.

That includes Bernie Williams, of course, but the book does poke gentle fun at "Bernie being Bernie," which at times involved shockingly air-headed behavior.

"One time he left Yankee Stadium after a night game and forgot his own child, who was playing video games," Tom Verducci writes. "When he reached home he realized his oversight and called up Andy Pettitte and said, 'Andy, can you bring him home?'''

And this:

"Another time, after the clinching game of a World Series, Williams drove home without his wife. Waleska Williams was left standing in the waiting room with trainer Steve Donahue."
