The big sports-related news out of the Oscar nominations Thursday was that for the first time, not one but two best picture nominees are about Eagles fans: “Silver Linings Playbook’’ and “Les Miserables.’’

Sorry. Couldn’t resist. Anyway, more about “Silver Linings Playbook’’ closer to the actual awards show. For now let us focus on more immediate sports movie news:

Monday MLB Network will premiere a five-week series, “Costas at the Movies,’’ wherein Bob Costas interviews famous actors and directors before showing famous baseball movies.

Normally I would dismiss this as offseason programming filler – well, actually, that’s exactly what this is – but in this case it’s worth our attention. I have complete confidence in Commack’s own Mr. Costas to make this interesting.

Check out this lineup: “Cobb’’ (Monday), interviews with actor Tommy Lee Jones and director Ron Shelton; “Bad News Bears’’ (Jan. 21), actress Tatum O’Neal; “A League of Their Own’’ (Jan. 28), actress Geena Davis and director Penny Marshall; “Eight Men Out’’ (Feb. 4), director John Sayles; “The Natural’’ (Feb. 11), director Barry Levinson.
