To break the monotony during my 17-post Thursday, I cranked out another Friday newspaper column.

The main item is about the World Series ending before 10 p.m. Eastern Time for the first time since 1984 - as far as MLB and I were able to determine.

There also were items about Jeff Pearlman's new book about the early 1990s Cowboys, Ron Darling's insistence at age 22 that the last thing he would be doing in his 40s is broadcasting, and Brett Favre's effect on the Jets' local TV ratings.

Favre has lifted the Jets by nearly 40 percent versus this time last year, which is interesting.

It's also interesting that last year the Jets ranked last in the NFL in average local rating for their games. So they kinda had nowhere to go but up.
