Call Bud Selig! Daytona 500 should NOT end early

I understand it is standard procedure to call NASCAR races because of rain before the planned number of laps have been completed, as long as enough such laps are completed.
But for those of us who might only watch one stock car race a year - the Daytona 500 - it would have been a good idea for Fox to explain in detail after Sunday's race ended early exactly why and how all this works, and examine why it must be thus.
I kept waiting for Bud Selig to step in and say it's one thing for a ho-hum regular-season event to be truncated by rain, but that given the magnitude of this particular event, it had to be delayed indefinitely and contested to its scheduled conclusion.
No one wants to see a rain-shortened World Series clincher, and no one should want to see such a thing befall American auto racing's Super Bowl.
