In this week's installment of "Whither Mike Francesa?" we check in with Dan Mason, president of CBS Radio. So, sir, are you hopeful of re-signing the big guy?
"We’re always hopeful for that," Mason said. "Mike’s a big part of the radio station, so we are hopeful of that."
Francesa has not said much about his future since telling Newsday last January he is "leaning toward leaving" WFAN when his contract expires in early 2014. But clearly the subject is on his mind.
Here is what he said on the air Jan. 4 after talking about Andy Reid declining to take a year off from coaching:
"This is what he does. It's who he is. I know that. You get used to doing something. If I wasn't coming in here every day, what do you do? Who do you talk to? Imagine after 25 years of having this forum 5 1/2 hours every day not having it. It's kind of hard to fathom.
"What do you do? Go out and hail a cab and talk to the guy in the cab? I mean, what do you do? Where do you go? It's something I've thought about, that's for sure."
