  • CBS/Turner to carry NCAAs

So much for that no-more-blogging vow for today.

The NCAA, CBS and Turner have announced a new 14-year deal in which the two networks will share coverage of the NCAA men's basketball tournament, paying a total of $10.8 billion.

Starting in 2011, every game will be seen live across four channels: CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV.

Starting in 2016, Turner will get the Final Four in even-numbered years.

The news release seems to indicate the field will expand to 68 teams, not 96. More details to come after 12:30 p.m. conference call.

ESPN had interest in the event but eventually declined to further increase its bid.

(UPDATE: OK, just got off the call. Bottom line: 68 teams, every game on live TV, NIT lives. Mostly all good.)

(UPDATE: Here is my newspaper article about all this.)
