Chip Caray fired by TBS

Chip Caray is through as TBS' lead baseball play-by-play man, which has me bummed out, because sports media critics are going to have a lot less to write about next October.

No replacement named yet. (Yo, someone call Gary Cohen!)

Here is Turner Sports' statement:

“Since the end of the 2009 MLB Playoffs, we’ve had several discussions with Chip Caray regarding 2010 and beyond.  Both sides agree that now is the right time to move ahead on different paths. We appreciate and thank Chip for his contributions to our Braves and MLB coverage and wish him all the best.”

(The New York Times was the first to report this story, on its baseball blog.)
