Dallas blogger uncovers sports media beat secret
Veteran sports media scribe Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News recently started a blog, which is nice. Welcome.
But last week he got carried away with his new forum and betrayed the entire sports media writer fraternity by revealing what should have remained our little secret:
That unlike any other kind of sportswriting, we get ridonkulously generous access to the people we cover, thus making our lives immeasurably easier.
TV types - and the p.r. people who prod them - love to talk to promote their networks and/or themselves, and thus return phone calls with a reliability that would be inconceivable from active coaches and athletes.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. Keep it up, people!
And, henceforth, keep this stuff to yourself, Horn.
