  • David Wells was not one of Joe Torre's 'boys'

This Torre book stuff is the gift that keeps on giving.

Thursday I live blogged David Wells' rip of his former skipper on 1050 ESPN, then wrote a newspaper story about it, then listened to Wells rip Torre on Sirius XM.

Later in the night AP sent word of Wells calling Torre a "punk" on L.A. radio.

Yikes! Sharp take on all this by former Giants beat writer John Harper, who notes that while Wells should be in no position to cast stones, by writing the book Torre opened himself up to such stuff.

All this is going on during what should be one of the quietest weeks on the baseball calendar. You know that famous DiMaggio line, "I want to thank the Good Lord for making me a Yankee"?

My version: "I want to thank the Good Lord for not making me a Yankee beat writer."
