David Wright is very accessible, but not to 'Mike'd Up'

Had flashbacks to my Giants beat days today as Mike Francesa discussed the Mets' David Wright and Ryan Church boycotting his show (and declining even to meet with him off the air) because of assorted comments about them last season.

At various points Francesa (and former partner Chris Russo) alienated Michael Strahan, Jeremy Shockey and Tiki Barber, then the team's most prominent players.

There have been many others over the years, including UConn coach Jim Calhoun, who now is friendly with Francesa and appeared on the show shortly after Mike made his comments about Church and Wright.

Francesa on Church: "I don’t really care if Church comes on the show now or forever. Church is going to be out of New York long before I’m going to worry about whether he comes on my show or not. He’s not a big deal in any way."

Francesa on Wright: "I think he’s being very immature because he’s had a straight ascendancy and he doesn’t want any criticism . . . He needs to grow up."

Speaking of Giants beat flashbacks, when I read this USA Today piece about the latest strange adventures of Dhani Jones, I was reminded of how painful it often was to solicit coherent comments at his locker.
