Derek Jeter documentary premieres July 28

Derek Jeter wore a microphone for two games -- the first time he ever did that -- during his march toward 3,000 hits as part of MLB Productions' "Derek Jeter 3K" documentary.
Lucky for us (and HBO and MLB), one of those two games included the one played on Saturday, July 9, 2011, against the Tampa Bay Rays. Jeter went 5-for-5 that afternoon and homered for hit No. 3,000.
The hour-long documentary that takes viewers behind the scenes of Jeter's quest premieres on HBO on July 28 at 9 p.m. Set your DVRs. This will likely be as close as you'll get to an inner look at Jeter during his playing days.
Expect to see archival footage of Jeter's career, fresh material from the days leading up to his 3,000th hit and new interviews with Hal Steinbrenner, Brian Cashman, Joe Girardi, Joe Torre, Curtis Granderson, Dave Winfield, Minka Kelly, Billy Crystal and others.
In the meantime, watch this archival Jeter video from MLB embedded below, then search our database of every Jeter hit, and click around the links below for more videos, photos and stories about Jeter.
