Derek Jeter is America's third-favorite jock, after Tiger and Kobe
This should not come as a surprise given my story in Tuesday’s paper about Derek Jeter blowing away the field as the most marketable baseball player, but . . .
Jeter is the only baseball player to make the top 10 of America’s favorite male sports stars, based on a Harris poll of 2,227 adults surveyed online between June 14 and 21.
The Yankees shortstop ranked third behind Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant, who tied for first place after Woods had been alone at the top since 2006.
Jeter moved up from fifth place last year to third.
The rest of the top 10: Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
James fell from third place last year, and that was before “The Decision’’ July 8.
Harris said men still have Woods No. 1, but women have replaced him with Bryant.
Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Danica Patrick, Mia Hamm, Maria Sharapova, Anna Kournikova, Misty May, Shawn Johnson, Lisa Leslie, Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova were the women’s top 10. (King and Navratilova tied for 10th.)
Speaking of the poll in Sports Business Daily in which Jeter was rated the most marketable baseball player, SBD also did a survey of most marketable players under 25.
Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg got 62 percent of the first-place votes. The rest of the top five was Evan Longoria, Jason Heyward, David Price and Bryce Harper.
