Difficult to argue with Sports Illustrated's choice of Derek Jeter as its Sportsman of the Year.

What, you wanted Jimmie Johnson? Or Roger Federer? Or Tim Tebow?

Nope, Jeter is The Man, as usual. And he made it through Thanksgiving weekend without crashing his car into a tree or being chased by a bat-wielding Minka Kelly, which earns him bonus points.

As far as I can tell, Jeter is the first New York athlete to win the award since Tom Seaver in 1969 - not counting the Knicks' Rory Sparrow in the 1987 "Athletes Who Care" issue.

Jeter spoke to Dan Patrick about all this Monday morning, and said when he retired he would "love to be an owner."
