Did Boomer Esiason take a little shot at the Mad Dog?
Before I write my Sunday newspaper column, I'll leave you nice people with some of my favorite quotes from the week . . .
"Nine innings, 170 pitches."
I hope I'm not ruining any surprises here, but Jerry Manuel is the heavy early favorite to win SportsWatch's New York Sports Media Person of the Year Award. (Hank Steinbrenner won last year.) Tom Coughlin also has a shot.
"If they have 16 good games, they can call me."
I'm not sure if I got this one verbatim, but it's close enough and says a lot. It's Brett Favre telling ESPN's Ed Werder this week that he isn't ready to feel bad about the Packers enjoying great success even without him after only two games.
"I just don't think you can really appreciate it until you've been there and you've felt like you were going to throw up on the first tee and would do anything for your partner."
That's NBC's Dottie Pepper talking about the pressure of international golf, in her case the Solheim Cup. The Ryder Cup starts today. Tiger's not playing.
"Somebody else is finding that out."
That would be Boomer Esiason this morning on WFAN after telling partner Craig Carton that no one outside the New York area has any idea who Carton is. Boomer presumably is referencing a certain other New York radio personality who now has a national platform on satellite radio.
